About Architectural Mailboxes: Style Meets Performance
Architectural Mailboxes was founded in 2000 and pairs galvanized steel and aluminum construction with design profiles ranging from clean modern lines to traditional decorative styles.
Locking models add a security layer that standard residential boxes skip entirely, making this lineup a practical choice for buyers who want theft deterrence built into the hardware.
Solar Group, Inc. acquired the brand in 2020 and merged it with Gibraltar Mailboxes, giving you access to the widest residential mailbox catalog from a single manufacturer.

Types of Architectural Mailboxes You'll Find Here
The catalog covers four core categories to help you self-select quickly.
Post Mount Architectural Mailboxes
Post mount mailboxes sit at the curb on a freestanding post, the standard setup for residential carrier delivery. The lineup spans classic and contemporary profiles across a broad style range. Mailbox and post kits include both pieces in one package for an easy, matching setup.
Wall Mount Architectural Mailboxes
Wall mount mailboxes attach to your home's exterior, a porch column, or a fence. This suits homes where the entry layout favors a mounted box or where curbside delivery isn't part of your routine. Locking and non-locking configurations are available with finishes that coordinate with most home exteriors.
Locking & Parcel-Friendly Architectural Mailboxes
Locking mailboxes deliver three things a standard box doesn't: privacy for sensitive mail, active theft deterrence, and protected delivery until you retrieve it. Compare models on these features:
-
Lock style: Keyed cylinder locks provide the strongest deterrent for residential use.
-
Mail slot size: Wider slots accept larger envelopes without bending.
-
Anti-pry construction: Reinforced door frames resist forced entry.
-
Package capacity: The Oasis Full Size and Elephant Trunk models accept parcels standard boxes can't.
Mailbox Posts, Brackets & Accessories
Posts and accessories match your install style and keep the box stable through daily use. The catalog covers:
-
Posts: Standard and decorative profiles with coordinating finish colors.
-
Mounting boards and brackets: Wall-surface and post-arm configurations for both mount types.
-
Anchors and hardware: Ground anchors and stainless steel fasteners for variable soil conditions.
-
Locks and replacement parts: Cylinder lock replacements and door hardware to extend your existing install.
How to Choose the Right Architectural Mailbox
Here is what the standard filters actually mean for your purchase:
-
Price: Mount type and security features drive the real cost difference.
-
Mounting style: Where your carrier delivers determines post mount vs. wall mount.
-
Capacity: Your mail and package volume determines the size you need.
-
Material: Your climate determines which construction holds up long term.
-
Access type: Your driveway orientation determines front vs. rear retrieval.
Pick Your Mounting Style: Post vs. Wall
Post mount suits homes with curbside delivery and yard space for a freestanding post. Wall mount suits homes where the carrier delivers to the porch or entry, or where lot size rules out a post. Choose based on your setup:
-
Post mount: Curbside delivery, yard space available, widest style selection.
-
Wall mount: Porch or entry delivery, limited space, or flush-mounted preference.
Choose Capacity Based on Your Delivery Volume
Letter-only models handle envelopes and flat mail. Regular package recipients need a model sized for parcel delivery. Architectural Mailboxes use standard, large, and extra large sizing. Capacity comes down to:
-
Parcel slot: Accepts packages without forcing the main door open.
-
Interior volume: Deeper boxes hold more between pickups.
-
Door design: A wider front door accepts padded mailers flat.
Select Material & Finish for Weather and Style
-
Galvanized steel: Heavy and strong with powder-coat protection. Low upkeep inland. Degrades faster near salt air.
-
Aluminum: Lighter and naturally rust-resistant. Minimal upkeep. Best for coastal or high-humidity regions.
-
Stainless steel: Highest corrosion resistance. Heavier than aluminum. Used in select wall mount models.
Finish colors include black, bronze, white, and graphite across most of the lineup.
Decide on Access: Front vs. Rear Retrieval
Front access opens toward the street. Rear access suits driveways running parallel to the road and properties where street-side retrieval feels unsafe. Confirm post placement allows the door to open fully before ordering a rear-access model.
Security & Durability: What to Look For
Three build decisions separate a mailbox lasting a decade from one that fails in three years:
-
Galvanized steel construction: Structural strength with a corrosion-resistant base layer.
-
Heat-bonded powder-coat finish: Bonds at high temperature, holds color through freeze-thaw cycles without chipping.
-
Stainless steel hardware: Resists rust at the fastener level, where cheaper mailboxes fail first.
Locking models add:
-
Reinforced door frames: Resist forced entry at the point most standard boxes fail.
-
Keyed cylinder locks: Your carrier delivers with their key. You retrieve with yours.
Mailbox Care & Maintenance Tips
Keep these seasonal checks on your routine to reduce rust, prevent sticking doors, and protect your finish:
-
Wash the exterior with mild soap and water twice a year. Skip abrasive cleaners, which strip the powder coat.
-
Apply UV-protective wax each spring to slow color fade on sun-exposed finishes.
-
Lubricate hinges and the lock cylinder with silicone-based spray each spring and fall.
-
Inspect the door seal each fall and replace cracked gaskets before winter.
-
Check post hardware after severe storms and retighten as needed.
-
Touch up scratches promptly with color-matched exterior paint before bare metal oxidizes.
Assembly and Installation Basics
All Architectural Mailboxes products are constructed of steel, aluminum or heavy-duty polymers, and then assembled using stainless steel hardware. Stainless steel is strong, durable and resistant to rust and corrosion, making it a great choice for outdoor products.
It is best practice to continue using stainless steel hardware when installing your new mailbox as well. Choosing high-quality fasteners for installation ensures the highest level of security and reliability from your mailbox package.

Frequently Asked Questions
Aluminum resists rust without any coating, making it the strongest performer in coastal and high-humidity climates. Galvanized steel with a powder-coat finish holds up in most inland climates at a lower cost. Plastic resists rust but becomes brittle under prolonged UV exposure, limiting its service life in high-sun regions.
Not always. Check two things first:
-
Post condition: A plumb, solid post free of rust or rot at the base can stay in service.
-
Mounting compatibility: Confirm the new mailbox mounting pattern matches your existing bracket. Architectural Mailboxes sells replacement mounting hardware if it differs.
Yes for most buyers who receive regular parcel deliveries. Locking curbside mailboxes require a carrier key for delivery, keeping mail and packages secured until you retrieve them. The Oasis line uses high-strength steel and keyed cylinder locks designed to resist pry attacks.
Most buyers handle both mount types without professional help using basic tools. Hire a professional if any of these apply:
-
Buried utilities: Call 811 before digging any post hole.
-
Masonry walls: Brick and concrete are tougher than they look, and drilling into them without experience can cause cracks.
-
HOA or permit requirements: Some communities require inspections a licensed contractor can navigate faster.
